  • The Whistler

“How do I say goodbye to what we had? The good times that made us laugh, outweighed the bad. I thought we'd get to see forever, but forever has blown away.”

From GOBAMA to Goodbye, this month we mourn the loss of our most feminist father figure. The administration that brought us The White House Council on Women and Girls, the first Latina woman to serve on the Supreme Court (3rd woman ever) and the first President to hold a hip hop block party at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. OH, BAMA. We miss you already.

SlutTalk Diaries: Dating Dudes

  • Taboo Tabou

Have you ever gotten “too drunk” on a date? Been worried you had sex “too soon” Are you too aggressive/intimidating/independent/assertive for most men? Maybe you just aren’t “girlie” enough? In an era when women are collectively their most empowered why does dating still feel like a like a page out of Emily Post?

Drawing from her personal experience and her academic training, professor and performer Alicia Swiz will facilitate an interactive conversation about the influence of traditional gender role behavior on modern dating practices with a focus on heterosexual relationships. One part lecture, two parts Q&A, Alicia uses humor and candid observation to provide insight and awareness into this taboo topic.

Alicia Swiz is an interdisciplinary artist and educator with a critical eye and a feminist heart. An alumna of the UNC-Greensboro Women’s and Gender Studies program, Alicia currently resides in Chicago, IL where she is an adjunct professor of Humanities at Harold Washington College. You can find her on the stage or on the internet facilitating dialogue that engages audiences in thinking critically about gender and media. Sometimes she’s funny and sometimes she’s not.
